TATRA MOUNTAINS
The Pearl of the Carpathians
The Tatras are the only alpine-type mountains in Poland. Their rocky peaks, sharp ridges, and deep valleys differ significantly from the more gentle mountain ranges of Central Europe. The highest peak in the Tatras – Gerlach at 2655 meters – is located on the Slovak side, while the highest peak in Poland is Rysy at 2499 meters. These majestic mountains are covered with snow for most of the year, giving them a rugged yet incredibly beautiful character.
The Tatras are home to many unique species of plants and animals that cannot be found anywhere else. Endemic species include the Tatra chamois, Tatra marmots, and rare plant species such as the Tatra scurvy-grass. The Tatras also feature many glacial lakes, the most famous of which is Morskie Oko – one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Europe.
EXTRAORDINARY BIODIVERISTY
The Tatras offer a wide variety of hiking trails of varying difficulty, from easy walking paths to challenging climbs. Popular routes such as the trail to Kasprowy Wierch or the Kościeliska Valley attract tourists from all over the world. For more experienced hikers, the trail to Orla Perć presents a true challenge.
HIKING TRAILS ON EVERY LEVEL
The Tatras are an ideal place for active recreation – both in summer and winter. In summer, you can hike, bike, climb, and enjoy numerous running trails. In winter, the Tatras become a paradise for all types of skiers and snowboarders, offering well-prepared slopes and ski trails.
